As a Casting Director on projects spanning Film, Tv, Broadway, Off-Broadway, and London’s West End— I’ve been asking the question how Global Majority (BIPOC), and First-Generation, and Queer, and Trans Actors can best center who they are in their careers as they often build scaffolding to enter spaces where they may be the First the Second the Next “X” person to (insert credit here). This is a huge burden to lay at an Actor’s feet— to figure out how to build a career with tools that feel like they were not designed with them in mind— often with very little guidance of Industry Insiders who represent them at intersections of their identities.

While casting on a span of high level projects and teaching at NYU Tisch, I’ve developed a focus of best practices Actors can consider that can be unique to them. Here, I’ve focused my learnings into a 4.5 hour two-part-seminar where I will cover the following topics:

This 4.5 hour (2 hrs & 15 mins per day) seminar will cover the following topics:

  • Engaging casting directors, with or without a representative;

  • Designing & building your team;

  • Maximizing your online presence so casting directors can find you with ease across multiple platforms;

  • Positioning yourself to be cast outside the audition room, even without an audition;

  • Streamlining your resume to tell your story;

  • Stepping up your self-tape game for optimal success;

  • Thriving in the audition room with tips and best practices;

  • Analyzing field-wide data on diversity and institutional bias, and how it impacts you;

  • Negotiating your value and maximizing your salary;

  • Assessing where you want to work, how to get there, and what to do when you’re there;

  • Navigating predominantly white spaces and best practices to keep you safe;

  • Q&A session

Note: This casting seminar will cover casting for Tv, Film, and Theatre (Broadway, Off-Broadway).

Who and Why:

X Casting is invested in shifting systems of inequality in our field. To that end, this seminar is designed with people of the global majority in mind (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and aims to be a safe space for Queer and Trans actors. It is also open to allies who participate in upending systems of exclusion.

Pricing:

For too long, casting workshops have been geared to the economically privileged, reinforcing systemic barriers to education and resource-sharing necessary for queer, trans, and artists of the global majority to thrive. In an effort to make this seminar inclusive, X Casting is reducing the cost of this seminar, which industry wide can range from $150-$800, to $65 total, this total price includes both sessions for a total of 4.5 hours of engagement.
